Pravin Shankar

I am a Data Scientist at Green Dot Corporation (formerly at Loopt, a startup based in Mountain View, CA).

I received a PhD in Computer Science from Rutgers University, as a member of the DISCO Lab advised by Professor Liviu Iftode.

My PhD research focus was on applied algorithms to solve real-world problems in the intersection of mobile computing and social networks.

My dissertation: Improving performance, privacy and relevance of location-based services for mobile users

Some of my research projects:

  • SocialTelescope: (Prototype.)
    A novel location-based service that leverages user interactions in location-based social networks to learn people's preference for places.
  • SBONE: (Prototype.)
    Connecting personal devices of friends using social networks.
  • RoadSpeak: (Prototype.)
    A vehicular social network that allows drivers on the same road to automatically form social groups and socialize with one another
  • TrafficView: (News. Video.)
    A car-to-car communication system that enhances driver safety in hazardous driving conditions.
