EXCERPT FROM SECTION XIV, PHOTOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS AND EVIDENCE (FORM 8) PART 1

by Bruce S. Maccabee, Ph. D.

12.1 FIRST STEPS

Complete the MUFON Questionnaire - Photographic Cases (Form 8) as part of the "First Things To Do" that follow.

12.1.1 Important Instructions for the Photographer

If possible, the photographer should leave the exposed film in the camera and neither advance nor rewind it. The photographer also should be instructed not to touch the lens, shutter or any other settings. This procedure, if carried out, allows the frame number to be recorded and it provides a way to take additional exposures under the same lighting conditions. These additional frames can be used as a test by developing them separately from the UFO frames to ascertain whether or not the UFO frames should be or could be pushed during the developing process.

12.1.2 Check out consistency between story and photograph

Be sure that the background of the photograph is what you would expect if it were taken under the reported circumstances. Do the following where applicable.

12.1.2.1 CHECK DISTANCES TO KNOWN LANDMARKS AT SITE

12.1.2.2 CHECK SKY BACKGROUND WITH THE WEATHER REPORT

12.1.2.3 CHECK SHADOW POSITIONS WITH SUN'S POSITION
