	As far as the underground base unconfirmed (Lear says he talked to
someone involved at these bases, but so far no one has come out and said
they've been/worked there.).... Hell, it could be just in this guy's mind!

	I really don't have a whole lot of material on underground bases;
I did find something in a wonderful paperback by Charles Berlitz
("World of strange phenomena" (1988 from Bantam; ISBN: 0-449-21825-2)).
It contains ~270 strange condensed stories such as this:

			KING OF THE WORLD

	According to the beliefs of many Mongolians and Tibetans (and
attested to by numerous Buddist monks who claim to have visted it),
a vast underground country called Arghati lies beneath the high plateau
in Central Asia.  From within the tunnels of Arghati, the prophecy goes,
will one day emerge the mystical King of the World and his subjects.

	Before the king comes forth, sometime around the close of the pre-
sent millennium, the Buddist teaching says, "men will increasingly neglect
their souls.  The greatest corruption will reign on earth.  Men will become
like bloodthristy animals, thirsting for the blood of their brothers. . .
The crowns of kings will fail. . .There will be a terrible war between all
the earth's peoples . . . entire nations will die . . . hunger . . .
crimes unknown to law. . .formerly unthinkable to the world will be commited.
	
	During this period of lawlessness, the prophecy continues, families
will be dispersed and mulitudes will flood the escape routes as the world's
"greatest and most beautiful cities . . . perish by fire.  Within fifty
years there will only be three great nations . . . and, within the next
fifty years there will be eighteen years of war and cataclysms. . . Then the
people of Argharti will leave their subterranean caverns and will appear on
the surface of the earth."
