Research Interests

I am studying ways to effectively apply machine learning techniques to human computer interaction in order to build smarter and more powerful user interfaces. Topics that I am interested in include: adaptive interfaces, reinforcement learning, and pervasive computing.

In the 20th century, humans had to learn to think like a computer in order to use them effectively. As computers become more complex and pervasive in our environment over the next century, we must create computer applications that simplify interactions to perform more complex tasks without the need for human supervision. I want to build software applications that learn from their human counterpart, anticipate their needs, and provide solutions that help the user improve their productivity.

I am a member of the Rutger Laboratory for Real-Life Reinforcement Learning (RL3) under the direction of my advisor Michael Littman.

Current Research
  • Currently working on research for the INEX 2006 Interactive program. The research involves performing information retrieval experiments with human test subjects. The goal is to analyze the results of an XML-based tool in order to learn patterns of human behavior that could be used to improve search session.
