Here's a list of my favourite composers:

It is now past more than 2 centuries since this great saint composer lived, leaving behind him a valuable treasure of Carnatic music. He started composing right from his teens, and during his lifetime, he managed to compose 700 odd kritis which feature more than 200 ragas, a feat not possible by an ordinary mortal. Truly the greatest composer to ever tread this earth.

The greatest composer of western classical music. Some of his compositions like Moonlight Sonata, Fur Elise, Ode to joy still have cult status. Ironically he suffered from a hearing disorder and eventually turned completely deaf.

What makes Bach's compositions so great apart from the melodic appeal is the numerical symbollism and the mathematical symbollism in his music.

I cannot write a greater tribute to Raaja than this - a tribute by Guitar Prasanna. Raaja's contributions to Tamil film music are just mindboggling, considering the sheer number of films he has composed during the 70s, 80s and the early 90s. This was the golden era of Tamil film music, and just because of this one legend. Virtually every classic during this period was composed by Raaja.

Contrary to Ilayaraja, he lived in an era of the greatest musicians in Hindi cinema, Shankar-Jaikishen, Kalyanji-Anandji, OP Nayyar, Madan Mohan, and later his illustrious son Panchamda (RD Burman). But what made SD Burman special in the midst of such legends was his style of music which featured a simple tune with a simple orchestra which emphasized more on its melodic content. The pinnacle of Hindi film music can be seen in SD Burman's albums Abhimaan, Pyaasa, Guide.

He proved his genius right in his first movie Roja, and since then has handled the mantle of the greatest post-Ilayaraja composer amazingly well. Of late his compositions have slackened, nonetheless he would rank really high in my list of favourite composers.

Here's a list of my favourite guitarists:

One of the greatest guitar players alive. Former member of Guns n Roses, now formed a band of his own - Snakepit.

Without question, Jimi Hendrix was one of the most innovative, creative, determined guitarists of his time. Hendrix took guitar playing to another level with songs like "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe" and "The Wind Cries Mary." He died of a drug overdose in 1970 at the age of 27.

Joe Satriani is one of the most technically accomplished and widely respected guitarists of the past decade, and also one of the most recognized guitar teachers , inspiring some of the top rock guitar players such as Kirk Hammett (later of Metallica), Larry LaLonde (later of Primus) and Steve Vai (now an acclaimed solo guitarist in his own right).

Now what can I say about this guitaring genuis! His chartbusters - Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Romeo & Juliet, Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing - each of them is a classic in its own right.

The only triple inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of both The Yardbirds and Cream and as a solo artist).
